Watch: Bizarre bat flip fail during the toss in BBL
What's the story?
The innovative bat flip toss in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) displayed a bizarre show at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Tuesday. The 'wild' flip of bat resulted in Sydney Thunders bowling first against Melbourne Renegades.
The method was introduced first time in the tournament this year and has been the highlight of the event thus far.
In case you didn't know
BBL, Australia's premier T20 tourney entered its eighth edition this year. Before the start of the event, the organising body of BBL decided to introduce a new method of toss.
While doing away with the 141-year old traditional coin toss, the Cricket Australia-owned league announced first of its kind, a bat flip toss. In this method, instead of heads or tails, captains call "hills" or "flats".
The heart of the matter
As soon as the bat flip was introduced, it grabbed the eyeballs across the cricket world. Many termed it a 'bizarre' method while quite a few supported BBL for introducing this distinctive way to determine who bats first.
Meanwhile, ahead of the game between Melbourne Renegades and Sydney Thunder, there was probably the most epic and bizarre bat flip recorded in the event. The guest lady made a 'wild' flip as she almost threw the bat at the camerapersons.
The official handle of KFC BBL Tweeted, "A WILD bat flip results in the Thunder bowling first! #BBL08" alongside the video showing the 'wild' bat flip.

Melbourne Renegades, the losing side at the toss, termed it a 'masterpiece'. "This is why it was a masterpiece," the franchise replied to the video.
What's next?
Shane Watson-led Sydney Thunder are bowling first in the match and they have got off to a good start as Melbourne Renegades lost their first two wickets in the first two overs.
