Watch: Dickwella and Khawaja involved in banter on the 3rd day of the 2nd Test match
What's the story?
Sri Lankan wicket-keeper Niroshan Dickwella and Aussie batsman Usman Khawaja were engaged in a comical banter on the 3rd day of the 2nd Test match going on at Canberra. The exchange between these two players was the latest addition to a list of such incidents which has happened in Australia over the past couple of months.
In case you didn't know...
This cricketing season in Australia has seen a number of banters which was recorded by the stump mic. While the Australia-India series was heavily influenced by Rishabh Pant and Tim Paine's antics, the ongoing series had not seen much of such incidents.
Australia had put on a formidable total of 534-5 in the first innings to which Sri Lanka replied with just 215 runs thereby conceding a huge lead. The Aussies decided to bat again and they lost 3 quick wickets within the first 15 overs of their second innings.
The heart of the matter
Travis Head and Usman Khawaja were looking to stabilize the situation when Dickwella engaged in banter with Khawaja. Facing Dilruwan Perera in the 16th over, Khawaja was involved in a few words which were recorded clearly on the stump mic.
Dickwella said, "Remember Marsh brothers. No runs under his belt boys", to which Khawaja replied that he plays for Queensland. Dickwella replied, "I only remember Marsh brothers here". Khawaja did not stop and said, "I can't remember you bowling mate". Dickwella was then quick to match Khawaja's words as he said, "You're that scared of us eh. I really want you to get some runs here. I don't want you to feel bad..after the series watching your team play on TV".
Khawaja decided not to reply as the play resumed.
What's next?
After losing the first match, Sri Lanka is staring at a consecutive defeat at Canberra. After a dismal batting performance in the first innings, Sri Lanka needs a miraculous performance in the second innings in order to make a comeback in the match.
