Watch: Ravindra Jadeja's sensational run-out to dismiss Usman Khawaja at Adelaide
What's the story?
Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja effected a brilliant run-out to dismiss Aussie batsman Usman Khawaja during the second ODI between hosts Australia and India at the Adelaide Oval.
The Background
The three-match ODI series began on January 12th at the Sydney Cricket Ground with Aaron Finch opting to bat first on winning the toss. Courtesy half-centuries from Usman Khawaja, Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb, the hosts posted 288-5 in 50 overs. Chasing 289 runs for the victory, India got off to a disastrous start losing three wickets with just four runs on the board.
Though MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma steadied the ship and provided confidence for the Men in Blue, Kohli's men eventually fell short of the Aussie total by 34 runs finishing at 254-9 (50 overs). In spite of Rohit's valiant knock- 133 off 129 balls that comprised ten fours and six sixes, India failed to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Both the sides landed at Adelaide determined to claim a victory. While a win for Finch's men will make it an unassailable 2-0 lead, an Indian win will make the Melbourne encounter, the series decider.
The heart of the matter
After opting to bat first at Adelaide, Australia lost both its openers by the eighth over with just 26 runs on the board. Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh provided stability to the Australian innings- courtesy their valuable 56-run partnership.
In the third delivery of the 19th over off Kuldeep Yadav, Khawaja was dismissed- thanks to an unbelievable run-out effort by Ravindra Jadeja. Jaddu's unreal fielding effort not just broke the crucial partnership, but also proved why he is one of the best fielders in the world at the moment.
What's next?
Having already lost the first ODI at Sydney, it's a much-win game for Kohli's men so that they can head to Melbourne with the series levelled at 1-1.
