Watch: 'The Edge' Trailer - A throwback to the best England team in the modern era
After "Forged in Fire" and "2 Nations 1 Obsession" captured a thrilling account of two of the fiercest rivalries in modern day cricket, NoahX studios from England have launched the trailer for a documentary of their own. In a stirring recollection, it turns time back to the era of one of England's greatest ever Test sides.
"The Edge" is an account of the side that created history in 2010/11 by being the first England team to win an Ashes series on Australian soil since 1986, stormed the Indian fortress by beating them 2-1 in 2012 while checking off the global title box by winning the ICC World T20 in 2010.
As shared by England's biggest fan group Barmy Army, the trailer is a view into the side comprising the likes of Andrew Strauss, Alastair Cook, James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and Kevin Pietersen who were the chief architects of the side that etched itself into national history.
While the currently respected English side was a phoenix risen from the ashes of perpetual humiliation, the class of 2009-2013 had a meticulous build up to the path of success.
The trailer not only highlights the highs of the triumphs, but reflects upon the much necessary yet often ignored aspect of the game, the toll the relentlessness took upon the cricketers. England's resilience on the field built a shell around its cricketers and imbibed a negative attitude towards defeat.
After years of escalation, it all came crashing down when they lost 0-5 to Australia in Australia after being blown away by a thundering Mitchell Johnson in 2013/14.
However, the team will go down, not just in English history, but in remembrance of all the cricketing fraternity, as one of the best sides of its era. Like the Australian side of its preceding age, it also structured itself as a cohesive group of cricketers working in tandem, and undoubtedly bore the fruit of it.
