Watch: When Rahul Dravid was shocked by a female fan
In a candid chat with stand-up comedian Vikram Sathaye during his ‘What The Duck’ series, Rahul Dravid opened up on an amusing experience. Hugely popular among female supporters in his prime, the former Indian skipper managed to survive unprecedented adulation which often accompanies cricketers in the country.
Imploring Dravid to share any interesting anecdote, Sathaye quipped, “Every mother wanted you to be her son-in-law. Somewhere, you gave an impression that you would make a great husband. And your colleagues also tell me that you have a lot of female following. Any interesting stories there?”
Channeling his witty instincts, the 43-year-old reminisced, “I had come back, I think from a long tour, just come back and I had gone off to sleep after sort of reaching home
in the morning and I was sleeping through the afternoon. I got up in the evening and my mom said that, ‘there is a fan waiting for you.’
“She has come all the way from Hyderabad and been waiting there for about an hour and my parents had given her tea and coffee. She was just sitting there waiting for me. I went there and gave her the usual autograph, photograph and said, Hello, How are you? Oh, you've come from Hyderabad. It's great.”

However, what was to follow placed Dravid in a delicate position. Apparently, the woman refused to leave by affirming that she had left her hometown and wanted to stay in his house.
Understandably, the right-hander then became tensed and asked, “How is that possible? Where are your parents. Obviously, I got a bit upset at that stage.” Luckily for Dravid, his parents realized that he needed a bit of help and sorted the situation.
Looking back on the funny side of the incident, the stalwart noted, “I think it was a little bit of wake-up call for my parents as well. It was one of those things which was not ideal kind of situation. But, it all ended up well. So, it was ok.”
Currently, the coach of both India ‘A’ and U-19 cricket teams, Dravid has been immensely influential in shaping the careers of the next generation of cricketers. Aside from all his experience as a world-class batsman, he can also offer some advice on how to deal with the frenzied fan following.
