We need to build some momentum: Morne Morkel
New Delhi - Delhi Daredevils‘ South African import Morne Morkel Thursday said the team was in a positive mood even after the three consecutive losses in the Indian Premier League, and hoped a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad Friday would give his team some momentum.
Delhi, who were the league toppers in the last edition of the IPL, have been a shadow of themselves, losing their opening three matches.
“Not a lot of things have gone right for us but we are still in a good mood and and team is in good spirit. Even after our losses we are still positive and hope we can deliver something special and get the momentum going,” Morkel told reporters here.
One of the biggest problems in the team has been the injury to star batsmen Kevin Pietersen and Virender Sehwag. While the Englishman has been ruled out of the entire tournament, Sehwag is expected to make a return Friday.
“He is definitely improving but will take a call tomorrow morning. He is a big player for us and if he returns it will be massive for us,” said Morkel.
Talking about the the team misfiring, the lanky pacer said,”We need to make a good start so far we haven’t managed to do that. We have certain plans which we need to execute tomorrow, if we do that I think we can be very competitive.”
“We were quite slow to adapt to bowling conditions earlier, hope we can do that in the next match.”
Morkel will be up against his countryman and fellow pacer Dale Steyn, but the 28-year-old refuses to be compared to him.
“There is no competition between me and Steyn. He is the number one bowler in the world and it would be silly for me to think I can be compared to him. He has helped me tremendously and he is a person I admire a lot.”
