West Indies do it the Gangnam style!
It’s time for the Gangnam Style. The long wait has ended, and the World Cup winner in upon us – West Indies it is. We have a new World Cup winner this time around. This doesn’t come as a surprise to many as they were one of the hot favourites to lift the Cup.
As the final approached, various teams bid adieu to the tournament, the World started rooting for the Caribbean side; not only do they enjoy themselves, but make sure you do too. The way they dance, the brand of cricket they display, is a treat. Make no mistake, they take their cricket very seriously too; it begins with the commitment in the field, while batting and without ending, just continues.
West Indies showcased flair, entertainment and utmost determination to register the best comeback ever in T20 cricket.
The Final began with West Indies winning the toss and electing to bat. They had the worst possible start, losing Gayle cheaply and were staring down the barrel at 17/2 in 6 overs. “Cometh the hour, Cometh the MAN” fitted so aptly to Marlon Samuels, who played a blinder of an innings, hitting one of the best T20 bowler, Lasith Malinga out of the ground. West Indies were down and out and if it was not for Samuels’ innings, they wouldn’t have had a shout. But courtesy Samuels, they reached a respectable and par score of 137.
Sri Lanka too began poorly, losing Dilshan early. Sangakkara and Jayawardene had a sort of partnership, but when Sangakkara departed, the others started following him and following him quick, via some quality bowling by the Windies and the effort they put in the field. Sri Lanka fell for 101 and it was time for the Windies to party in none other than the Gangnam Style. The moment was upon us, the moment the cricket fans were waiting for; to see the West Indians dance away in style after victory.
The Windies were ecstatic and went mad dancing. The world was enjoying the moment, seeing the Windies rejoice; probably danced with them too. Such is the aura and charisma of this West Indian side that one cannot help but love them, the way they are, it’s simply fabulous.
The West Indies won the World Cup after 1979, the decade they used to dominate World Cricket like none other. This might just prove to be a catalyst to change the face of West Indies cricket and on a broader scale, the world cricket. They are the ones who have revolutionized the modern day cricket. The quality of cricket they displayed; you can just watch and admire them.
This win means a lot to them and the West Indian Cricket, and we might just see the once cricketing giants rise again.
What happens is left to be seen and one must wait for things to unfold, but enjoy and live in the moment; it’s time to tap your feet on the Gangnam Style!
Congratulations WEST INDIES; the world is happy for you to see you lift the Cup.
