West Indies looking to defend World T20 title
West Indies will be looking forward to put up a good show and try to defend their World Cup title in the forth coming World T20, which will be held in Bangladesh, starting from 16th of March. In the last World T20, they emerged as the world champions after defeating Sri Lanka in their own den with the help of heroic performances from Marlon Samuels in the final.
The World Cup triumph was significant as it was the first major ICC event they won after the 2004 Champions Trophy and winning back to back World Cups back in 1975 and 1979 respectively.
West Indian legend Clive Lloyd, like many others thought that it would have been a revival of lost glory of West Indian cricket, but it was not so. They lost the the test series’ against India and New Zealand without giving strong competition. They even lost the T20 series 0-2 to New Zealand which was followed by a drawn series at home to Ireland.
However, they have the potential and players to taste success in the shortest format of the game. Players like Marlon Samuels, Darren Sammy, Â Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine and Dwayne Bravo are sure to play a key role if West Indies are able to defend their title this year.
The omission of Keiron Pollard though will be a big blow to the team, as he played a big part in their triumph two years back. He is probably the most efficient player in their team, he is explosive with the bat, and he is a very good fielder and also an effective bowler. West Indies is grouped alongside Australia, Pakistan and India in the World T20. West Indies play their first match against India on the 23rd of March.
