West Indies vs New Zealand 2014: Kiwis face selection headache ahead of second Test

Corey Anderson is fit and ready to play

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson revealed that he is facing a problem of plenty in choosing his playing XI for the second Test match against West Indies.

Corey Anderson is fit and raring to go in the middle order after missing the series opener due to a neck muscle strain he suffered during a practice session. On a tricky note, Jimmy Neesham, Anderson’s replacement, has smashed his second Test match hundred and put his name into the record books, also helping his team to a 186 run win.

On having to choose one for the next match: "We'll cross that bridge when we get to Trinidad, but obviously he's (Neesham) got two hundreds in two tests. That's a pretty good effort, really. And Corey is a pretty good performer as well, so some discussions to have there," he said.

It should be noted that opening batsmen Peter Fulton is under immense pressure to keep his place after scoring just a meagre 63 runs in his last 10 outings for the Kiwis. Hamish Rutherford is the reserve opener in the squad.

About the advantages of winning a Test match in four days: "Lucky we didn't have to bowl again for a large portion of day five and hopefully that will hold us in good stead heading to Trinidad. But it's tough. You go in with two-and-a-half seamers and two spinners. It's a hard workload," Hesson said.

Hesson also mentioned that West Indies might bounce back hard after going down so easily in the first match. "I guess we'll find out in Trinidad, but some sides come back harder and I imagine they'll be doing that," he said.

Port of Spain, Trinidad will host the second Test of the three match series scheduled to get underway on June 16.
