West Indies vs India 2016: Devendra Bishoo ready to bowl long spells
Having been selected in the West Indies squad for the Test series against India, spin bowler Devendra Bishoo is gearing up to respond to the newly instated selection committee’s faith with a strong showing.
Speaking to windiescricket.com, the 30-year-old expressed readiness to bowl long spells on pitches in the Caribbean which have become more conducive to spinners. He has been undergoing a grueling training session at the 3Ws Oval in UWI Cave Hill Campus.
Bishoo enthused, “The bowling is good. I didn’t get to play much matches in the Caribbean T20 (CPL) but Test cricket is a whole different kettle of fish. I’m up for it, I really want to have a good series. It’s very important for me. I know I will have to bowl long spells but I just want to bowl long good spells and get a lot of wickets in the tournament.”
Upon making his Test debut in 2011 against Pakistan at the Providence Stadium, the Guyana-based cricketer has picked up 55 scalps from 15 matches at an average of 38.05 including a couple of five-wicket hauls.
However, the leg-spinner’s recent form does not exactly inspire a lot of confidence with an inconsistent performance in his previous Test series in Sri Lanka. He hoped that the infusion of fresh faces into the set-up could lift the mood in the West Indies camp.

Bishoo felt, “We’ve been putting in the work since day one and we’ve been enjoying it as a team. All the boys are very comfortable and we’re looking forward to the tournament. We’re getting there as a team, the togetherness is there and we’ll like to take it from here.”
He added, “Everyone is really up for it and we really want to do well in the series. As a young team, there are a lot of expectations on us as for the last few Test matches we haven’t been doing that great but I think the team is coming along very well.”
Stressing on the necessity to maintain an optimum level of fitness in order to endure Test cricket, Bishoo also believed in sharpening the mental aspect of his game.
