West Indies vs Ireland: Quick Flicks of the day
The match between West Indies and Ireland saw a sorry end, with rain taking centre stage at the R.Premadasa stadium in Colombo. The abandoned match thus handed West Indies a berth into the Super 8′s from group B along with Australia. Ireland meanwhile will head back home after a very ordinary campaign. Many would’ve expected them to give Australia and WestIndies a few jitters but they couldn’t quite manage that.
Despite being a washed out game it had a few moments to remember.
Porterfield’s first ball woes: Irish captain Will Porterfield will take more than a day to forget this World Cup. Personally, it has been nothing more than a nightmare. Two games, two first-ball ducks, the second one coming in the game against West Indies, where an unplayable in-swinging yorker rattled his stumps.
Niall O’Brien: Niall O’Brien came close to taking his side to a competitive total before being foxed by Chris Gayle. This was the second time in two games when he started his innings strongly but couldn’t convert it into a big knock.
Chris ‘PSY’ Gayle: Chris Gayle is a thorough entertainer. With the bat he takes on bowlers like they were toddlers from his neighbourhood. Against Ireland, he entertained after picking up a crucial wicket. The Carribbean man celebrated in a peculiar fashion, doing a dance move from a song called Gangnam Style by a Korean pop star Psy. Expect Gayle’s celebration videos also to hit astonishing numbers on YouTube.
Ireland second time unlucky: This was the second T20 World Cup in a row when Ireland got sent back due to an abandoned game. To be honest, West Indies were in the driver’s seat anyway, but Porterfield and his boys would’ve hoped to go down with a fight.
