What If IPL Teams were prominent Houses of Westeros
If the teams in the Indian Premier League were prominent houses in the Game of Thrones-verse, then which house/unit would your favorite IPL teams be? Needless to say, there will be Game of Thrones spoilers, so be warned.
Chennai Super Kings – House Targaryen
Like their counterparts in the Game of Thrones, Chennai Super Kings dominated Westeros (IPL) and for long had no equal in all of the land (league). However the actions of their King (N Srinivasan) and Prince (Gurunath Meiyappan) started a rebellion, which resulted in their empire being uprooted, and they now find themselves in exile, waiting for a chance to return and take back their throne.
Kings XI Punjab – Night’s Watch
The northern most unit in the land, like the Night’s Watch, Kings XI Punjab have never held any honors or titles or glory. Just as the Night’s Watch has to make do with whatever men they find, often having to recruit thieves and murderers just to make up the numbers, Kings XI Punjab too, have had to make up the numbers with men who ultimately lack the quality and resolve required for their cause.
Kolkata Knight Riders – House Bolton
Kolkata Night Riders, much like House Bolton were initially secondary players in the game, content with watching other houses take the glory. They chose to be led by the favourite son of their region, Robb Stark (Saurav Ganguly), who they believed would lead them to bigger and better things.
However, they felt things were not going in the right direction and once this realisation set in, House Bolton (KKR) quickly went about fixing things, and unceremoniously parted ways with Robb Stark (Saurav Ganguly).
Since House Bolton (KKR) adopted this new brutal, more ruthless outlook, they have found a great measure of success (2 IPL Titles) and have become one of the key players to watch out for in every episode (season).
Rising Pune Supergiants – House Stark
House Stark (RPS) were led by one of the legends of the land, and everyone believed they were destined to rule and prosper. However their House was brutally cut down by betrayals (injuries), and one by one they lost their best warriors (players).
Those that were left tried to deal with the situation as nobly and honorably as they could but the House (team) finds itself well short of where anyone would have expected to be at this point of the story (season), at the start.
Those left have found a new resolve, after a few recent small highs (23 off the final over) they look forward to regaining their rightful place at the top in the chapters to come.
Rajasthan Royals – The Ironborn
The Iron Islands, presently ruled by House Greyjoy, were once a great Kingdom in Westeros. In the early part of Westeros’ history after a series of successful military campaigns, the Ironborn had a large part of Westeros under their rule. However over the years, their influence in Westeros has declined rapidly and they have become almost completely irrelevant in the game.
Much like House Greyjoy, Rajasthan Royals tasted glory in the initial phase of Westeros’ (IPL’s) history when they became the first ever IPL champions. However, they never came close to ruling the land again. Things hit rock bottom with their ban, and much like House Greyjoy, Rajasthan Royals are now mere observers, sitting on the sidelines watching other houses (teams) play the game (of thrones).
