When Brett Lee recorded a song with Asha Bhosle
Former Australian speedster Brett Lee once collaborated with Indian singer Asha Bhosle for a music video back in 2006. The iconic singer was recently spotted with another cricketing legend as she posed with former Indian captain MS Dhoni during the Anant Ambani-Radhika Merchant wedding.
The 90-year-old attended the lavish wedding with her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle. Zanai posted a picture on her Instagram story and captioned it,
"Quite a moment."
Bhosle is a revered singer whose career spanned over eight decades, recording songs in various languages, with many for Bollywood films. She received two National Film awards, 18 Maharashtra State Film awards and a record seven Filmfare awards for Best Female Playback Singer. Furthermore, in 2020, she was a recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's biggest award in the field of cinema.
The legendary singer was also awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honor in the country in 2008. She also found mention in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most-recorded artist in music history in 2011.
Meanwhile, Lee is a stalwart of the game and is regarded as one of the most fearsome pacers in its history. He finished his international career with 700+ wickets across all formats. The 47-year-old is the first bowler to claim hat-tricks in the ODI and T20I formats.
During his playing career, Lee was part of Australia's title victories in the 2003 Cricket World Cup, the 2006 ICC Champions Trophy, and the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy.
On that note, let's dive into the details of the Brett Lee-Asha Bhosle collaboration.
Brett Lee and Asha Bhosle's song was released during the 2006 Champions Trophy
The two famous personalities released their song, 'You're the One for Me' during the 2006 Champions Trophy, which was held in India. According to the video description, Brett Lee penned down the lyrics of the duet in just 30 minutes between practice sessions at the Champions Trophy.
The story of the song revolves around a foreigner (Lee) trying to woo an Indian girl while playing guitar and singing. Meanwhile, Asha Bhosle played the role of an instructor, who teaches Hindi to Lee in his attempt to impress the girl.
The song was a huge hit in India, as it marked its presence in the top five on the music charts of popular FM station Radio City. Here's what Bhosle told Reuters at that time about the experience of working with Lee:
