When Dwayne Bravo stunned the Eden Gardens crowd by grabbing MS Dhoni's collar
India’s warm-up match against West Indies in Eden Gardens on Thursday ended in a comfortable 45-run victory, but there was one moment right after the match which took everyone’s breath away in fear, though only temporarily.
As the players of the two teams shook each others’ hands after the match, Dwayne Bravo took hold of MS Dhoni’s collar, and it looked like he was attacking the India captain. The raucous Eden Gardens crowd suddenly fell silent, shocked at what they were seeing.
Dhoni’s face too registered some surprise, taken aback at the departure from the usual shake of the hand that the other Windies players were offering him.
However, as it became apparent the next moment, Bravo, who is a long-time teammate of MS Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings, was only having a bit of a laugh. Dhoni, once he recovered from the shock of the moment, also laughed along, though his smile was not as broad as Bravo’s.
There was a shake of hand as well, as the relieved crowd laughed along. What had seemed like an angry confrontation was only a hearty banter between two very close friends.
Since the match, India have travelled to play their last warm-up match against South Africa in Mumbai, while West Indies have set up base in Kolkata.
