Which IPL 2025 team has signed most players from its home state?

An intense Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction recently concluded, with teams shelling out big amounts to acquire some of the top players from not just India but across the globe to strengthen their squads going into the 2025 season.

The IPL, going by its name, has proved to be a platform for young and emerging Indian cricketers to showcase their skills, gain exposure, and make a mark for themselves while playing in a highly competitive league.

During the IPL 2025 auction, a shift in trend was noticed, with franchises spending heavily on Indian players as compared to overseas players. Moreover, teams also spent significant amounts on uncapped Indian players, which comes as a positive sign.

During the initial years of the league, several local players would be seen playing for their home-state teams. Unfortunately, however, over the past few years, this number seems to have gone down significantly. With the auction concluded, only a handful of local players have been signed to play for their home-state teams.

Which IPL 2025 team has signed most players from its home state?

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are the teams who have signed the most number of players from their home state this time around.

Starting with CSK, the five-time IPL champions brought back veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin at the auction. Ashwin made his debut in the league with CSK in 2009 and played for them till 2015 before now returning ahead of the 2025 season.

CSK also signed left-arm Tamil Nadu pacer Gurjapneet Singh along with all-rounder Vijay Shankar. Further, they also signed 18-year-old batter C Andre Siddarth, who plays for the Chepauk Super Gillies in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings also have four local players in their IPL 2025 squad. Punjab retained Prabhsimran Singh ahead of the auction. They brought back pacer Arshdeep Singh for INR 18 crore.

PBKS also signed talented batter Nehal Wadhera, who impressed with the Mumbai Indians. They also bought back the left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar.

# 3 players - LSG

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) retained pacer Mohsin Khan ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. During the auction, they signed the dynamic right-handed batter Aryan Juyal, who impressed everyone with his performance in the UP T20 league. They also signed 26-year-old batting all-rounder Prince Yadav, who bowls right-arm medium pace.

All three players - Mohsin, Aryan and Prince play for Uttar Pradesh, with Lucknow being the capital city. Hence, LSG come second with three home-state players, only behind CSK and PBKS.

# 2 players - RCB, RR and MI

There are three teams that have two local players in their IPL 2025 squads. Starting with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), the franchise bought back Devdutt Padikkal into the side at the auction. The left-handed Karnataka batter began his IPL journey in 2020 with RCB before playing for Rajasthan (2022-23) and LSG (2024). The Bengaluru franchise also bought back all-rounder Manoj Bhandage, whom they had released ahead of the auction.

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) also made a couple of local signings at the auction. They signed local boys Kunal Singh Rathore and Ashok Sharma for INR 30 lakh each.

The final team on this list is five-time winners Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians did not make any home-state player buys at the auction. However, they did retain Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma before the auction, who are both local boys.
