Australia and India are set to face each other in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, starting Friday, December 6, at the Adelaide Oval. While it’ll be the host’s 13th pink-ball game in the format, India will play their fifth-ever Test of such kind.
Australia are a dominant force among all other teams when we look at their history in pink-ball Tests. They’ve played the most number of such matches (12) as compared to other nations. The Aussies have lost just one game, while winning the remaining Tests.
A total of 22 pink-ball Tests have been played in the sport's history, with Australia being part of 12 of them. Of the 12 matches played, Australia have won 11 matches and lost just one, and stand atop the ranks with a win percentage of 91.67. India, their close rivals in the format, follow next with three wins and a loss in four pink-ball games. With that, India have a 75 percent win percentage.
Sri Lanka, too, have played four pink-ball Tests, having won two and lost as many, and as a result, they have a win percentage of 50. South Africa also have a 50 percent win percentage in pink-ball matches, having won a lone game and lost one in their two outings.
England take up the fifth spot in the list. They have played seven such matches in the longest format of the sport and lost five games, with a lone victory in their bag. As a result, England have a win percentage of 29.
New Zealand and Pakistan have played four pink-ball Tests each, and both teams have won a single game while losing the remaining three, taking their win percentage to 25.
West Indies stunned the cricket fraternity when they defeated Australia in a pink-ball Test, thereby also registering their first such win. The Caribbean side have played five Tests with the pink ball, losing four of them (20 percent win percentage).
Bangladesh and Zimbabwe take the bottom two spots in the list, having played just one pink-ball Test and losing their respective games.
