Australian pacer Brendan Doggett ran through India A's batting line-up, picking up six wickets on the opening day of the unofficial Test between Australia A and India A on Thursday, October 31.

The 30-year-old pacer was on song, as he began his onslaught by dismissing Sai Sudarshan. After a magnificent start, there was no looking back as he went on to pick five more wickets, grabbing the key scalps of Ishan Kishan, Devdutt Padikkal, and Nitish Kumar Reddy among others.

India A were eventually bowled out for just 107, thanks to a fiery spell of fast bowling from Brendan Doggett. He bowled 11 overs and ended up with figures of 6/15 at an economy of 1.36.

Born in Rockhampton, Queensland, Doggett made his first-class debut in 2017 and has played 37 games. He has picked up 127 wickets (before the start of the match against India A).

Following his brilliant display with the ball, here are five interesting facts about the Australia pacer.

#5 Brendan Doggett was only the second Indigenous Australian to have a contract with Queensland

In the 2016–17 season, Doggett secured a rookie contract with the Queensland Bulls, becoming only the second Indigenous Australian to sign with the team. However, he did not get an opportunity to play for them during that season.

Instead, he made his List A debut with the Cricket Australia XI in the 2016-17 Matador BBQs One-Day Cup. In his first game, which was against Queensland, he claimed his maiden List A wicket by bowling out fellow Queenslander Ben Cutting late in the innings. Over the course of the tournament, he took six wickets in four games, the second-highest tally for Cricket Australia XI.

#4 He was named the Lord's Taverners Indigenous Cricketer of the Year in 2016

Originally from Toowoomba, Doggett achieved recognition as the Lord’s Taverners Indigenous Cricketer of the Year in 2016. Following this, he made his Sheffield Shield debut for Queensland in October 2017 in a match against Victoria, marking his entry into first-class cricket. In June 2018, Doggett also participated in the significant Aboriginal XI tour of the UK.

#3 Doggett is a fully qualified carpenter outside of cricket

While Brendan Doggett is known for his skills in cricket, not many know that he is a qualified carpenter outside of the sport. He started his apprenticeship straight out of school and did four years of the same.

He also took a Certificate IV course in construction to get a builders' license. Doggett worked as a carpenter in Queensland before he started his cricket career.

#2 His 6/15 against India A are his best career figures

In the ongoing four-day game against India A, Brendan Doggett made headlines as he picked up six wickets to help the hosts bowl India A out for just 107. He picked up the wickets of Sai Sudarshan, Devdutt Padikkal, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Manav Suthar, and Prasidh Krishna.

He ended with figures of 6/15 in 11 overs, which are also his career-best figures so far.

#1 He was named in Australia's Test squad for the Pakistan series

Following his impressive performances, Brendan Doggett received his maiden international call-up when he was named in the Australian Test squad for the series against Pakistan in 2018.

Australia were touring Pakistan in the UAE and Doggett, a 24-year-old back then, was named in the squad for the two-Test series. However, the Queensland pacer did not get an opportunity to play and is yet to make his international debut for Australia.
