Who Said What: World reacts as Adelaide Strikers claim maiden BBL title

BBL Final - Strikers v Hurricanes
Weatherald scored the highest score in a BBL final

Jake Weatherald's century helped Adelaide Strikers beat Hobart Hurricanes by 25 runs at the Adelaide Oval and claim their maiden BBL title. Hurricanes were on track to scale a target of 203 before Peter Siddle's incredible spell drained all momentum out of the chase and eventually helped the Strikers claim a comfortable victory.

Strikers captain Travis Head won the toss and elected to bat. Although Alex Carey was dismissed early, Weatherald smashed the highest score in a BBL final (115) and with the help of cameos from Head and Colin Ingram, they posted 202/2 in their 20 overs.

Even a fifty from D'Arcy Short and 46 from Hurricanes captain George Bailey wasn't enough as could only manage 177/5 and fell short of claiming their maiden BBL title.

Travis Head

"Means a lot. We didn't take the few opportunities in the past we got, it is nice to win front of 40,000 people. He (Jake Weatherald) played fantastically well tonight. To George and Hobart, well done to those guys. Special mention to D'Arcy, he's been exceptional. Fantastic bunch of guys, fantastic achievement by the boys."

George Bailey

"Very deserving champions Adelaide Strikers. Absolutely well-deserved. Want to thank my sponsors, people of Hobart, coaching staff and the full squad, and particularly the players who haven't got the opportunity to play more games. Keep your chin up boys, we will come back strong the next season."

Jake WeatheraldΒ

"I wasn't feeling great walking out. Few nerves, but it came out well and I'm glad for my side."

Here are the reactions from the cricket fraternity:

Plenty of praise came the way of Weatherald for his century.

And Peter Siddle, who turned the game around with his bowling.
