Who said what: World reacts as Pakistan collapse against Australia
The Brisbane pitch is historically is quick and lively one, and on the second day the batsmen on either side would vouch for this. Just ask the Australian batsmen who lost their las7 wickets for 106 runs. However, they still managed to get to 429 due to a defiant century by Peter Handscomb who ended with 105.
However, things went pear shaped for Pakistan when they came out to bat and were blown away by the Australian pace attack under lights. The pink ball zipped around and the pitch offered lateral movement too. At one stage the visitors were reduced to 67 for 8, and the batsmen had no answers to the many questions posed by the Australian seamers.
Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood took 3 wickets each and Jackson Bird chipped in with a couple of scalps. The middle order comprising Younus Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq and Asad Shafiq could only manage 6 runs between them, and Pakistan lost 7 wickets for 24 runs in this collapse. They ended the day on 97/8, still behind by 332 runs.
Here is how the cricketing world reacted after another shoddy display from the Pakistani batsmen.
Peter Handscomb, after his century
Great day for the team, for the bowlers to come back in the final session and break the back of Pakistan side to put us in a healthy position was awesome. Great to get to a hundred too. Nice to have them (mother and girlfriend) in the crowd. It was a plan, was waiting for Yasir to toss it up and they brought the field up so I thought of having a go.
