Another day and Virat Kohli broke several more records as he brought up his 20th Test century. Day one of the third Test between India and Sri Lanka at Kotla belonged to the Indian captain, who crossed the 5,000 run mark in Tests, became the fastest to 16,000 runs in international and overtook Rahul Dravid on the list of most runs by an Indian in a calendar year.

During the course of his third century of the series, he became the first captain to hit a century in each match of a three-match Test series and the first Indian after Rahul Dravid to score three successive Test tons. Records continued to tumble as the Indian skipper also brought up his fastest Test fifty and century as took the Sri Lankan bowlers apart.

While he might have hogged the majority of the headlines, he was far from the only star performer on the day. Murali Vijay scored a century, which all but guaranteed his spot in the side for the tour of South Africa and the pair put on 283 runs for the third wicket. At the end of day one, courtesy of Kohli's unbeaten century and 155 from Murali Vijay, India ended the day on 371/4 after winning the toss and electing to bat first.
