If wickets stay slow at the World Cup, India can play three spinners: Rahul Dravid

Former India captain Rahul Dravid said that the Indian team need to hope that the wickets in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand remain slow and supportive of spin. He said that he found it strange that the Australian wickets were slow in the recently concluded Test series and believes that if the wickets stay the same India can play two to three spinners.

Talking about the World Cup, Dravid, however, warned that the task in front of the Mahendra Singh Dhoni team is not an easy one.

“It's going to be a challenge, it is not easy. You are playing in very different conditions,” Dravid said.

Australian pitches are known to be fast and bouncy, but in the Test series, they were strangely slow and Dravid said that if the pitches behave in the same manner, it will be advantageous to India.

“That's the advantage India has, if the wickets stay slower and lower as we have seen in the Test matches, then the spinners will come into the mix and India can afford to play two and even three spinners,” he concluded.

Earlier this month, another former India captain Anil Kumble had said that the Indian Test team should be more flexible with their strategy overseas. He had noted that Dhoni has been sticking with the strategy of playing 3 fast bowlers and 1 spinner in Test cricket outside the sub-continent and that has caused some bad results.

India begin their World Cup campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on February 15.
