Williamson, Dhawan set up Sunrisers to down Delhi

Kane Williamson, who scored 89 for Sunrisers on Wednesday

Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan inspired Sunrisers Hyderabad to a 15-run victory over Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday.

The pair came together in the second over after the hosts had suffered the early loss of captain David Warner, and put on 136 to set up a challenging total of 191-4.

In his first outing of IPL 10, Williamson struck six fours and five maximums in his 51-ball 89, while Dhawan was slightly more circumspect in his 70 from 50.

Shreyas Iyer made 50 not out and Sanju Samson 42 in reply for the Daredevils, but they were restricted to 176-5 with the help of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, whose superb tournament continued with 0-29 from his allocation.

Victory made it four from four at home this season for the defending champions, who moved level on points at the top of the table with Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.

Chris Morris' 4-26 was the only bright spot with the ball for the Daredevils, and it was he who removed Warner for four, which brought Williamson to the crease.

He and Dhawan dominated the Delhi attack, the New Zealand captain crashing Angelo Mathews for back-to-back sixes over midwicket and long-off to assert his authority.

Morris returned to claim both Williamson and Dhawan, as well as Yuvraj Singh (3), before opener Samson got Delhi's chase up with the rate at 56-1 at the end of the powerplay.

He received support from Karun Nair (33), but they were unable to clear the ropes with the frequency of Williamson, Iyer's impressive effort ultimately counting for nothing as Sunrisers closed out victory.
