Win over Australia would make a massive statement: James Taylor

James Taylor was instrumental for England to reach the tri-series final

England batsman James Taylor believes that they have passed a big test of character by winning against India at the WACA. England booked their spot in the tri-series final after winning the decider over India in Perth on Friday night.

Taylor said that a win against the Aussies in the final on Sunday will prove to be a significant boost heading into the World Cup tournament.

"It would make a massive statement, no doubt, It is going to be a challenge. They are playing some great cricket at the moment, but we are all looking forward to it,” he said.

"We know if we string all three facets together and do them to the best of our ability, which we are getting close to doing, we know we are going to put in a real good performance on Sunday."

Improvement needed when facing Australia

The Man-of-the-match against India saved the Three Lions from 66-6, chasing 201 for victory. He scored a match-winning 82 runs off 122 balls, forming 125-run stand with Jos Buttler for the sixth-wicket.

However, he mentioned that improvement is needed when they face the four-time world champions in the final.

"In a perfect world it wouldn't have got that tight. Sixty for five isn't ideal but we showed some real character, It's a great result for us. We definitely didn't play our best cricket with the bat but in a tough situation we showed the character to get through it and win the game.”

England will face Australia in the tri-series final on Sunday February 1st at the WACA stadium.
