Women's cricket in Nepal: A small initiation expected to make a massive difference
In recent years, the rise and growth of Men's cricket in Nepal have been remarkable. While the Nepalese players are still on the weaker half due to the lack of support from the government in absence of their official cricket board, the determination and dedication of the players have paid off to some extent, as Nepal has now gotten the official ODI status.
Without a hint of doubt, the grand T20 leagues being conducted in Nepal, Everest Premier League, Pokhara Premier League, Dhangadhi Premier League, etc. to name a few, have done a transcendent job by putting giant strides forward to extract local talents from the streets and gullies of villages and towns.
Let us not forget that Sandeep Lamichanne, the Nepalese spin-sensation, was explored by the National coach and skipper of Nepal in the nets of Chitwan.
Not only have the leagues explored new talents in Nepal, but the organizers have also made the gracious presence of Internationally-reputed cricketers in Nepalese T20 leagues possible, which has helped Nepal to gain exposure all over the world.
The future of men's cricket in Nepal, at present, doesn't seem dark; after all the wonder kid from Nepal, Lamichanne has been doing miracles in grand T20 leagues like BBL, BPL, CPL, IPL and so on; the support from the side of the crowd can't be neglected.
Having said these all, what about the future of women's cricket in Nepal? On a sadder note, it's an undeniable fact that there has been not even a single reputed cricket tournament conducted in Nepal, specifically for the women cricketers of Nepal.
The unfortunate situation has killed the hopes of hundreds and thousands of young girls to hold the bat and ball proudly and represent Nepal in the biggest stage of Women's cricket.
The passion for the game of cricket among the girls still exists in the streets of Nepal, but the narrow scope of Women cricket has obliged the parents to keep their daughters far from cricket.
The lack of cricket materials, financial resources, abundant women's cricket academy, and other factors have added fuel to the fire.
It's now time for us to realize that Women's cricket does have a wide scope, internationally, if the government and cricket board of each country collaborate and concentrate on providing optimum opportunities to the women cricketers.
There's a need for initiation, be it small or large; there must be a revolution; there must be a desire for change.
However, it's not that the campaign has not been initiated yet. There are a number of cricket-related organizations serving for the development of women cricket in Nepal, they just need an appropriate recognition.
Hundreds of souls are still alive who are working desperately to provide a pair of wings for the wishes of thousands of aspiring future women cricketers in Nepal.
A small social media group Cricket Corner also decided to support for a good cause, with the collaboration of Nirvana Cricket Academy and Bardiwas Nobel Cricket Academy. The alliance has been printing and distributing cricket jerseys; the funds collected are being utilized for the purchase and donation of cricket kits for deserving women in Nepal.
Moreover, the team has also been conducting charity matches for the purpose of fund collection and appropriate mobilization.
With a motto of 'Together for Women Cricket', the whole team is hopeful that their small initiation can make a huge change in the fate of women cricketers in Nepal.
Without any doubt, there are a lot of other groups and clubs who have been carrying out excellent works but need some exposure to expand their mission throughout the country Nepal.
So, to those who are residing in Nepal and to all of the well-wishers of Nepalese cricket, let's unite for women's cricket in Nepal; together we can and together we will accomplish our mission.
