England ended its 44-year World Cup drought with a thrilling win over New Zealand at Lord's on 14th July. With this, the mega event came to an end and a new Cricket World Cup Champion was crowned for the first time since 1996.

The 6-week-long World Cup caravan was not less than a thrilling movie and the final turned out to be one of the greatest ODIs ever.

This edition of World Cup witnessed many previous records being broken and many new records being created. Many players left their mark in the tournament with some marvelous performance. New Zealand Captain Kane Williamson was awarded the Player of the Tournament award, who with his sagacious batting and shrewd captaincy almost took New Zealand to their maiden World cup title.

Shakib Al Hasan proved why is he such a highly-rated all-rounder in the world with his distinctive performances in the tournament. The left-hander decided to bat at no. 3 in the tournament. The 32-year-old garnered 606 runs in the tournament at an astonishing average of 86.57 and with an impressive strike-rate of 96.03, which includes 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries, with a top-score of 124* against West Indies.

The slow left-arm orthodox bowler was magnificent with the ball too. In eight games, the left-armer scalped 11 wickets with the best performance of 5/29 coming against Afghanistan.

Shakib was awarded MoM for the first time in the tournament against South Africa where he not only scored a consummate 75 off 84 balls but also scalped a wicket of opener Aiden Markram. He was economical in his spell too.

His second MoM performance came against West Indies where the left-hander took the wickets of dangerous Evin Lewis and Nicholas Pooran and then scored a swashbuckling 124 off just 99 deliveries as Bangladesh chased the target of 322 in just 41.3 overs.

Against Afghanistan, the southpaw scored a brilliant half-century as Bangladesh managed to post 262 and with the ball, the Magura-born all-rounder claimed a fifer which helped Bangladesh garner an easy win.
