World Cup 2019, India vs South Africa: Rohit Sharma on the verge of reaching a special milestone
Virat Kohli led India will kick-off their 2019 World Cup campaign with the game against South Africa at Southampton. While India will look to start on a positive note, South Africa would want to turn around their campaign, having endured crushing defeats at the hands of England and Bangladesh.
Cloudy conditions are expected on Wednesday in Southampton but the cricket fans need not worry as there is a just 10% chance of rain. The temperature is likely to remain between 15-16 degrees Celsius.
The pitch is expected to be pretty good for batting, similar to the one we got to see when more than 730 runs were scored when England took on Pakistan in an ODI last month. Hence we can expect yet another high scoring encounter.
India's star opener Rohit Sharma has scored 11,926 runs in international cricket. If he manages to score 74 runs against South Africa, he will become the 9th Indian to cross 12000 runs in international cricket for India. The list contains some of the legendary Indian cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Mohammad Azharuddin and Sunil Gavaskar.
Rohit Sharma is also the only cricketer in the world to score three double centuries in ODI history. Rohit's career completely changed ever since he started to open the innings for team India. He is currently ranked as second best ODI batsman with captain Kohli holding the top spot in ICC ODI ranking.
The Hitman was run out without scoring a run when these two teams met in 2015 World Cup. Shikhar Dhawan's century ensured India won the game by 13 runs. The recent form of Indian openers has been a slight worry for the Indian team. However, both of them capable of producing good performances in big tournaments.
