World Cup 2019: Top performer in the tournament from each team of the IPL
On the back of a consistent show in the 2019 World Cup, England won their first-ever title in what transpired into one of the greatest cricket matches in history. At the completion of the game, New Zealand and England were tied on 241 and even went on to tie scores in the Super Over. However, England's superior boundary count handed them the title win in the end.
A number of world-class players excelled in the World Cup 2019. Rohit Sharma finished as the top run-scorer and Mitchell Starc ended the tournament as the highest wicket-taker. Kane Williamson was named as the Player of the Tournament.
Many of the top performers in this edition of the World Cup also featured in IPL 2019 before playing in this marquee event and carried their form into this tournament. However, there were a few others who had a poor IPL but excelled in the World Cup.
Here is the list of top performers in the World Cup from each team in the IPL 2019.
#8 Kings XI Punjab - Mohammed Shami (India)
Mohammed Shami was not in the playing XI at the beginning of the World Cup. He got a chance against Afghanistan after Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up an injury during the match against Pakistan.
Shami took 14 wickets from four matches in the World Cup 2019. He also grabbed a hat-trick against Afghanistan and a five-wicket haul against England. He performed brilliantly in the World Cup but was dropped after he conceded too many runs in the death overs against Bangladesh. Shami was the second-highest wicket-taker for India after Jasprit Bumrah.
#7 Chennai Super Kings - Faf du Plessis (South Africa)
Faf du Plessis fought like a lone warrior for his national side in the World Cup 2019. When all of his teammates failed to score runs, he scored some quality runs for his team under pressure.
The skipper and the right-handed batsman performed well for the Proteas and scored 387 runs in 8 innings at a strike rate of 89.58. Du Plessis played his best innings of the tournament in their final group stage game where he scored a century against Australia.
