World Cup T20: Dale Steyn injury scare for South Africa

Dale Steyn

Ahead of their World Cup T20 opener against Sri Lanka on March 22, South Africa find themselves in a spot of bother with injury scare to their bowling spearhead Dale Steyn.

Steyn, playing in the Saffers’ first warm-up match against Bangladesh A, left the field after bowling only 2.2 overs. The official Twitter account of Cricket South Africa later clarified the reason behind it by stating,

The 30-year-old first encountered troubles with his right hamstring when he strained it during the third Test match against South Africa earlier this month. Not only did he miss the major portion of the match after bowling 10.1 overs in the first innings but also the 3-match T20 series against the same opposition that followed.

Captain Faf du Plessis, too, missed the match as a result of a hamstring strain; however, the team management would be relieved by the fact that Morne Morkel, who had been experiencing problems with a shoulder niggle, was able to recover and bowl his full quota of 4 overs.
