The Haridwar-born lad has been earmarked for the future and his campaign has forced everyone to sit up and take notice. After having impressed everyone with his big hitting prowess in the U-19 World Cup, Pant has taken to first class cricket like a duck to water.
He also impressed during his stint with Delhi Daredevils under coach Rahul Dravid under whom he blossomed at the U-19 World Cup. With these performances, he justified his Rs 1.9 crore price tag.
Pant keeps his style very uncomplicated and relies on his instincts to hit the ball. He is very fluent on the off side and for a man of his age, his hitting prowess is unbridled.
“It’s all because of the hard work I have put in the nets and the practice sessions. I was preparing well for this (Ranji season) so that I could be at the top of my game when it comes. I was looking into the very details of my game and discussing it with my coach Tarak Sinha. I also worked extremely hard on my fitness and was planning to not let go of any opportunity, thankfully it has worked out very well so far,” Pant said in an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda.
He has credited his rise and improvements in the game to Rahul Dravid who has worked closely with him right from his U-19 days and idolises former Indian opener Virender Sehwag.
With these performances, Pant is certainly making all the right moves and the selectors would love his performances to continue right throughout the season. India are in the midst of a long home season and thus opportunities could snap up anytime.
There is certainly promise and there is ability, the young man definitely has a bright future ahead of him.
