Youngster Avesh Khan's spell of 6-3-4-4 helps India U-19 thrash Bangladesh U-19

Avesh Khan picked up 4 wickets for India U-19

Youngster Avesh Khan produced a breathtaking display of pace bowling, picking up 4 wickets as India U-19 crushed a hapless Bangladesh U-19 team by 82 runs, in the first match of the tri-series, also featuring Afghanistan U-19 team, in Kolkata on Friday.

Winning the toss and batting first, India U-19 team did not get off to the best of starts, as they were reeling at 76/7 at one stage. However, Zeeshan Ansari and Avesh Khan steadied things for the hosts, as India finally finished at 158 on the board.

Mohammad Miraz was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors with 3 wickets to his name. Saleh Ahmed Gazi and Mohammad Halim, pitched in with 2 wickets each. Bangladesh had done the job with ball, and it was up to their batsmen to deliver.

Chasing the modest total, the visitors got off to the worst of starts, as Avesh Khan, who started proceedings, picked up a wicket of the very first ball. Bangladesh U-19 were reduced to 32/6 early on, even before the completion of 10 overs.

Avesh Khan, who had earlier rescued India with the bat, bowled remarkably well and his dream spell of 6-3-4-4, completely dismantled the opposition, and they were eventually bowled out for a paltry 76, thus handing India an emphatic victory.

Out of their total score of 76, Bangladeshi middle order batsman Shafiul Hayet alone scored 26 of those runs. The next highest score was 13, followed by the extras bowled by the Indian bowlers.

India made little work of bowling, as the visitors were dismissed in less than 23 overs, to clinch victory in the opening game of the tri-series tournament also featuring Afghanistan U-19 squad. The match was played in the Jadavpur University Campus ground in Kolkata.

India opened their account with 5 points and they will next take on Afghanistan U-19, on Saturday in their second match.
