Yuvraj Singh's father Yograj Singh diagnosed with vocal chord cancer

Yuvraj Singh

Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh, a former Indian Test player, has been reportedly diagnosed with a vocal chord cancer. This comes a year after Yuvraj Singh himself had successfully recovered from a germ cell cancer.

According to the Indian Express, Yograj has been admitted in the same hospital at New York where his son took his treatment. Although, unlike Yuvraj, his father did’t require chemotherapy to get rid of the tumour. Doctors have expressed hope after removing the lump, and Yograj is recovering well.  It has been learnt that he was diagnozed with cancer a few months back and was advised to go to US after he complained of choking in his voice.

Yograj’s wife Satveer Kaur said: “He would often complain about throat pain and cough. But he never let us know what was going on. He would take medicines and be fine for a while. But when the problem got worse, he had to tell us.”

His wife added: “Thanks to the Almighty, the tumour was removed about 20 days back and he is recovering now. He has been advised not to talk till he has recovered completely.

“He will be back as soon as the observation period is over. He did not want me to accompany him as our children had to be looked after. We are hoping for his quick recovery.”

He is currently recovering in the United States, but Satveer mentioned that he would be back in India soon.

While Yograj has been advised to not strain his vocal chords, he has been in constant touch with his family and his pupil Manan Vohra, who impressed the cricketing world with his exciting strokeplay in the just concluded Indian Premier League.

The 20-year-old Vohra said: “It was wonderful to get his wishes even when he is unwell. He is my Guru, I wish he is back to Chandigarh fully fit soon, so that I could share with him my IPL experience.”
