Zimbabwe all-rounder hospitalised after receiving blow on his head
Zimbabwe cricketer Luke Jongwe was admitted to the hospital after being knocked over during a practice match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium ahead of the World T20 in March. Cricket Australia reported the all-rounder getting hit on the head in the follow through upon completing his delivery stride against Sharjah Cricket Club.
The 21-year old who is part of the squad for the ICC World T20 was attempting a return catch before the impact of the ball struck him just above the right eye. He was taken to the hospital by an ambulance in between the encounter. But, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and X-Ray scans revealed that there was no damage to his head.
However, he was put on drips and kept under observation in the hospital for further safety. Generally, injuries on the head could become quite serious as concussions and blood loss result in severe long-term effects. Thankfully in Jongwe’s case, that did not turn out be the case as he was cleared by the doctors.
Meanwhile, his team made 185/6 from overs and eventually won the game by 17 runs. Hamilton Masakadza and Vusumuzi Sibanda were the top run-getters while Imran Haider was adjudged Man of the Match for his spectacular spell of 5-21. Despite finishing on the losing side, Haider displayed his skills with the ball.
The 2nd contest between the two teams will take place on Thursday at the iconic stadium in Sharjah. Zimbabwe are scheduled to play a couple of practice matches against the West Indies before embarking on a trip to India for the showpiece event.
As a warm-up to the qualifiers, they will play against Bangladesh and Ireland in the picturesque Dharamsala ground. Zimbabwe are slotted alongside Hong Kong, Scotland and Afghanistan in the qualifying event. The winner of the group proceeds to the main event which begins on March 15.
The African country would be hoping that Jongwe who is a useful all-rounder in the shorter formats shrugs off the incident and plays at his best to ensure that they do not miss out on qualification for the tournament proper.
THANK God im finally out.IM GOOD family and friends thanks to @Medeo24 hospital. THANKS TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS FOR THE PRAYERS AND MESSAGES.
