Zimbabwe Captain Elton Chigumbura suspended for two ODIs
When you score your maiden one-day hundred you would obviously want to carry forward that momentum, but unfortunately it won’t be the case for Zimbabwe Captain Elton Chigumbura. He has been suspended for two ODIs by the ICC for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first one-dayer against Pakistan in Lahore.
Now he won’t be available to play the second and third ODIs (which will also be played at Lahore). The rest of the players received a 40% fine from the match referee Roshan Mahanama as Zimbabwe were found to be three overs short.
This was considered to be a serious offence as the ICC imposes such heavy fines when a team is found guilty of being more than two overs short in an ODI or a T20 international. If Chigumbura is found guilty again within the next 12 months, then he will receive a sanction of between two and eight suspension points. There was no formal hearing since Elton pleaded guilty to the charge.
