Zimbabwe coach asks players to visit the Indian dressing room for tips on the game
The Zimbabwean cricket coach Andy Waller had asked his players to visit the Indian dressing room to pick brains of the Indian cricketers and gain some insights and tips on playing the game.
After having been thrashed by the Indians led by Virat Kohli, the coach felt that it was a great opportunity for the boys to learn from some the best players in the world.
“They’re in the changing room with (India) now, to talk to them,” said Waller, as reported by IBNLive.
“The best time to learn is now in the change room with the best players in the world, and talking one-on-one when you’re not shy talking out in the open. And our guys are quite bad like that.”
“They don’t go up and ask questions about cricket, and that’s how you learn. And I’m hoping we try to change that culture. Hopefully they’ll learn something from what they hear from the guys,” the coach added.
Andy Waller was all praise for the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who he said played a risk free game. The Zimbabwean players on the other hand were always on the look out to make improvisations and hence had higher chances of getting out.
The Zimbabwean coach also felt that watching the IPL had an adverse impact on his players as they played far to many shots without showing the necessary patience.
“I think it’s watching all this IPL and that sort of stuff that’s got these guys thinking the only way you can score runs is hitting over the top and hitting sixes and fours,” Waller said.
He wanted the players to take a leaf out of the Indian players’ books, in the way that they were patient enough to let some good balls go, outside the off stump and where able to score when the opportunity presented itself.
To send the entire team to the Indian dressing room seems like a rather humorous move to most Indian supporters.
