Zimbabwe vs India 2013: Mohit Sharma rejoices 'dream' debut
The new Indian fast bowling sensation Mohit Sharma is rejoicing in the wake of his “dream” debut for India.
Bowling with the new ball in the fourth ODI between India and Zimbabwe, Mohit was able to pick up two important wickets, thereby helping reduce Zimbabwe to a paltry score of 144.
First he picked up the in form opener Sikander Raza and later on he was able to come back in the power play and get the wicket of Malcolm Waller who was playing particularly well until then.
“Yeah, it all feels like a dream,” Mohit said after the match.
“But I have worked on my bowling and it is showing. I am ready to do well in whatever opportunity I am going to get. I was just focusing on keeping things simple and sticking to basics. I did not want to try too many things, and it worked for me today.”
Mohit had impressed while playing for Haryana in the domestic Ranji season and made a huge impact for the Chennai Super Kings in the recently concluded IPL. He ended up being one of the most economical bowler’s for the IPL franchise this season.
His strength has always been his ability to hit he right lengths just on and outside the off stick, and is able to get some movement off the seam.
Earlier in the day, after he picked up Raza with an out-swinger and was brought back in the power plays, where he broke an 80-run Zimbabwe stand between Waller and Elton Chigumbura.
Speaking on the challenge of bowling in the power plays he explained, “It is difficult to bowl in Powerplays but we work hard in practice sessions.”
“We create match situations during training and bowl a lot and that has helped in matches. And that is why we don’t feel much pressure in matches. Playing under Mahi bhai [Dhoni] and in pressure conditions has taught me a lot. I am just carrying that experience into the international level.”
Mohit Sharma sure seems to have a bright future ahead of him.
