Tour de France 2016: Day 4 Results - Marcel Kittel wins Stage 4
Marcel Kittel of Etixx Quick-Step finally won his first stage of this year’s Tour de France as he won stage 4 of the event on day 4, covering 237.5 km from Saumur to Limoges. He beat Bryan Coquard of Direct Energie who came second in a dramatic sprint finish in Limoges on Tuesday. This was the ninth tour stage win of his career. Peter Sagan retained the yellow jersey.
"There is a lot of emotion. I had to fight to come back, I had a tough start to the season but the goal has always been the Tour de France," a delighted Kittel said afterwards. "The plan was to take the yellow jersey after the first stage but that did not go as expected."

Kittel had a timing of 5:28:30. Bryan Coquard of Direct Energie came second, and was followed by World Champion Peter Sagan of Tinkoff team who had won day 2 of the event in third position. Dylan Groenewegen of LottonNI-Jumbo came fourth, and Alexander Kristoff of Team Katusha finished fifth.
However, there were no changes at the top of the general classification as Peter Sagan of Tinkoff team still retains the overall lead with 147 points. Mark Cavendish, who won stage 1 and 3 of the event stands second in the rankings with 142 points. Marcel Kittel’s win puts him in the third position with 137 points. Stage 6 of the event will see cyclists race from Limoges to Le Lioran, covering a distance of 216 kilometres in the medium-mountain stage.
