Seven phenomenal FPS games to play if you liked playing the Metro series
1) S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadows of Chernobyl
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise focuses on an area surrounding the Chernobyl power plant, known as "the Zone", affected by the meteorological phenomenon following the 2006 disaster. The first game focuses on the Marked One, an amnesiac soldier on a quest to kill a mysterious man named Strelok, hidden within the confines of the Zone. Players who enjoy single-player sci-fi FPS games with horror elements will not be disappointed by the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Shadows of Chernobyl.
2) Far Cry 3
Ubisoft's Far Cry series has dominated the first-person shooter genre for a long time. But no one can deny that Far Cry 3 is the game that officially put the series into the mainstream domain. The title follows Jason Brody on his journey toward becoming a ruthless predator after an exotic vacation gone awry. If you prefer open-world shooter games with remarkable gunplay and the freedom of approaching enemy encounters, Far Cry 3 will be right up your alley.
3) Resident Evil 8: Village
The commercial failure of Resident Evil 6 marked the franchise's darkest period, prompting Capcom to take the series in a completely new direction with its next installment, Biohazard. Following this, the series released its eighth mainline title — Village.
This game focuses on the protagonist, Ethan, trying to rescue his daughter, Rose, from the Lyncans — four Mutant Lords headed by Mother Miranda. Players who want an action-heavy survival horror FPS filled with mutant encounters and an oppressive atmosphere can buy Village without hesitation.
4) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Although the Call of Duty franchise has been host to numerous dramatized popcorn-entertainer campaigns, it didn't start off as a high-octane military shooter. Well, not until Modern Warfare (2007) launched it to new heights. Modern Warfare's campaign deals with the real-time effects of a nuclear explosion and as such, is a good option for those who wish to experience FPS games related to nuclear warfare.
5) Fallout 4
The Fallout franchise's setting of the American wasteland is as famous among RPG fans as the genre itself. This FPS trilogy incorporates Bethesda's signature approach to exploration, allowing players to ignore the main quest entirely and set off on their own adventures.
While the earlier installments of this Bethesda series (3, New Vegas) honed in on the RPG mechanics, Fallout 4 focuses much more on refining gunplay and introduces construction mechanics to the series. Thus, players looking for post-apocalyptic open-world RPG FPS games with interactable factions can go ahead with Fallout 4.
6) Wolfenstein: The New Order
The Wolfenstein franchise of alternate reality World War II first-person shooters was not in a promising position during the 2000s. Interest in the series was dwindling, especially after the critical and commercial failure of Wolfenstein 2009. However, its successor, and a series reboot, Wolfenstein: The New Order, brought the series back to its glory days.
The game follows BJ Blazkowicz on his quest to take revenge against General Wilhelm 'Deathshead' Strasse. Players looking for FPS games with snappy gunplay, witty writing, compelling characters, and a unique setting, will thoroughly appreciate The New Order.
7) Trepang2
When the FEAR series started losing its footing games, Trepang Studios decided to develop the former's spiritual successor, leading to Trepang2. The game focuses on Subject 106, a test subject with the ability to become invisible and slow down time. Players who find FPS games with supernatural elements, a spooky atmosphere, and crisp gunplay exhilarating, can pick up Trepang2 without hesitation.
