What's the story?
Big Ant Studio, who are the publishers of the highly-popular Don Bradman Cricket Series, announced the release of their next video game Ashes Cricket, ahead of the highly-anticipated series between the two great cricketing nations of Australia and England.
In what will be a historic first for cricket gaming, the game will be fully-licensed and will include real names, stadiums and player likenesses, something that has been missing for a long, long time. The game will feature men's and women's players from the nations of Australia and England, with the makers having worked with Cricket Australia and the England & Wales Cricket Board in order to create as real a game as possible.
“Time and time again players tell us the feature they love most about our cricket games is the deep customisation options,” said Big Ant CEO Ross Symons.
He added, “We have produced a true Ashes cricket game, through and through, but we’ve also made sure that our heritage in sports games remains true.”
In case you didn't know
The Ashes is considered to be the most iconic rivalry in the history of cricket and has been contested between England and Australia for over a century.
The heart of the matter
The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in November this year and will have all the features that have made Big Ant and it's games extremely popular. Apart from the Ashes Test Series, players can also play different types of matches and competitions -- from short five-over matches to international tours.
Players can create their own teams, logos, players as well as stadiums in the game and additionally, the game is also set to feature a career-mode as well, where users can start off as a local cricketer and make their way up the ranks -- right to the Ashes!
What's next?
The game is slated for a summer release in Australia i.e. November. However, the specific date for the release is yet to be announced.
Author's take
This is a dream come true for all cricket fans and gamers, who can finally get to play with their real heroes -- with original names and faces. The release cannot come soon enough!
