Dragon Age The Veilguard is verified to run on the Steam Deck
In a post by the developers on the game's official News tab on Steam, the following was revealed:
"We're making great progress towards our fall launch date and can confirm early that #DragonAge: The Veilguard is going all-in on @Steam features! ⚔️We're verified on Steam Deck. ⚔️We'll be Steam native - meaning the EA App will not be required to play the game."
This is an ideal situation for Steam Deck owners, as the game will have native support for the handheld, ensuring ideal performance and optimization specifically for the device. Compared to other games that are playable on Steam Deck, being verified makes it such that the version specific to the Steam Deck will be certain to have better optimization and performance settings.
The likely reason for this is the fact that the graphics requirements for this title are not as extreme as other releases in the recent past. As we know, the minimum system requirements for Dragon Age The Veilguard are not exorbitantly high, which will see the game perform reasonably even on lower-end hardware.
This includes the Steam Deck, which acts as a handheld PC and has limited due to this aspect. The same is seen even on the standard PC version, where the base requirement is a GTX 970 graphics card, hardware from 2014.
Additionally, the lack of an EA App to play the game further removes the DRM reliance between the game and EA's servers for download. This makes the Steam Deck version available as a standalone title tied solely to Steam servers instead.
