CM Punk reveals he wasn't the first choice for WWE'13's cover
A recent statement from CM Punk has revealed that he was not WWE’s first choice as the cover star of their WWE’13 game title. In fact, if WWE had it their way, he probably wouldn’t have even been considered for the cover at all.
Punk mentioned this info in Colt Cabana’s recent podcast, part 2. He revealed that WWE did not consider him for the cover and instead wanted wrestler Sheamus as their cover star for WWE’13.The change in decision was largely due to then game publisher THQ. CM Punk brought the spark back in wrestling in 2011 after his infamous “pipe bomb” promo.
He again rose to wrestling fame after he became the WWE Champion back in 2012. Punk is now one of the hottest wrestlers in WWE’s recent history with a huge fan following so he definitely seems like an obvious choice for the games cover.
Problem was that Randy Orton was already signed on for the cover of WWE’ 12, which is okay considering there’s always next year.
But according to Punk, WWE had other plans. Sheamus was their chosen wrestler for the cover of WWE’ 13 which seems like quite an odd decision considering he’s not very popular.
This kind of behaviour of pushing “their guys” is largely why Punk left WWE later. It was largely because THQ and the fans insistence that CM Punk was made the cover star of WWE’ 13, as he so rightfully deserves.
