Dragon Age The Veilguard: How to open the Gate of Lost Ages

There are many areas to explore in Dragon Age The Veilguard's large map of Thedas, though players may often find their paths blocked in some areas. One such area is the Gate of Lost Ages, which blocks players from proceeding until a specific boss has been defeated and their essence is claimed and brought to the gate.

This is not too dissimilar to the other quests encountered in the game, such as the one where Sirin the Twice-Forged had to be defeated to claim the essence to open the gate and proceed forth. Below is a guide on how to open the Gate of Lost Ages.

The gate in question can be found in Dock Town in an area called Andraste's Watch. Once the quest has been started, make your way through the market area of Dock Town and head towards the north. A Fen'Harel altar will be present near a beacon. Activating it will create a pathway to the Lost Company Mine area.

Descend to the bottom of the pit, where a large cyst will be visible. Be prepared before breaking open the cyst, as it starts a boss fight with Quyn the Sparkwielder. This boss can resist Necrotic damage but is vulnerable to fire attacks. It is a Level 20 boss, and its attacks can result in heavy damage to the party.

However, like most other boss fights in the game, a combination of timely dodging and attacking will be the best way to proceed forth with the quest. It will stomp the ground, creating shockwaves that can result in debris falling from above, which will be denoted by a red circle. Make sure to avoid this attack by dodging out of the way in time.

Additionally, it can launch a jump attack which results in a portion of the ground glowing red, indicating the area that will be affected by the smash, so avoid this. It can also charge at the party and cause, so do your best to not be near Quyn. Some way into the fight, additional enemies will spawn in which can cause damage, so defeat them with Necrotic damage as they are vulnerable to it.

Keep dealing Fire damage to burn through Quyn's health, and time all your dodges correctly to take minimal damage. Done correctly, Quyn can be defeated without much trouble — once defeated, will drop a Champion's Essence. Claim it and head back to the gate to unlock it by presenting the Essence.
