Dragon Age The Veilguard Lucanis guide: How to recruit, abilities, and equipment
In Dragon Age The Veilguard, players have a number of characters that can make up a party. And among these is the Antivan Crows member Lucanis Dellamorte. A human companion, Lucanis is skilled in taking down Mages, which has given him the title "Mage Slayer." Having him in the party can prove quite beneficial given his prowess with dealing Necrotic damage.

Lucanis is described in the game as follows:
Lucanis is an expert assassin for whom the Antivan Crows are a family business. He is poised & pragmatic, but he’d rather not be the center of attention. His focus is usually on his work. Lucanis specializes in executing powerful mages and has earned himself the title Demon of Vyrantium.
Recruiting Lucanis in Dragon Age The Veilguard
Lucanis is recruited by Rook to join the party during the events of the main story mission Sea of Blood during Act 1 of the campaign.
Lucanis' Abilities
Lucanis has five main abilities which can be used in battle.
1) Eviscerate
Lucanis deals a decisive blow, targeting an enemy’s weakest point. At half health or less, this deals bonus damage, increasing in effectiveness the closer the target is to death. Detonates Overwhelmed.
- Death Toll- Cooldown duration: -15%
- Deathtrap- Enemies hit by this Ability have their Necrotic Resistance permanently reduced by 20%
- Magic Bane- Damage vs. Barrier: +50%
- Tear to Ribbons- Damage vs High Health: +30%
- Twin Blades- Adds an extra hit, dealing 50% as Physical damage.
- Demonic Daggers- On impact, applies Necrosis and Bleeding. or Reckoning- Damage vs. Low Health: +50%
- Don't Miss- When this Ability defeats an enemy, its cooldown is reduced by 75%
- Crow's Mark- Damage scaling based on missing health is increased by 50%
2) Abominate
Lucanis sweeps the area with demonic strength. Deals high Barrier damage and applies Knocked Down to enemies in the area.
- Ruthlessness- Damage vs. Low Health: +50%
- Twin Spike- Adds an extra hit, dealing 150% as Physical damage.
- Malice- Applies Necrosis on impact. or Resentment- Applies Bleeding on impact.
- Schism- Damage vs. Barrier: +50%
- Relentless Spite- Cooldown duration: -15%
- Venom- On impact, creates a pool of Necrotic venom that deals 60 damage each second for six seconds. or Vindictive Break- Each hit permanently reduces the target's Defense by 15.
3) Soothing Potion
A Talon is ready for anything and never without a potent concoction on hand. Lucanis tosses a restorative tincture to you, granting Rejuvenation.
- Patch Up- Cooldown duration: -20%
- Antivan Coffee- When activated, also grants Necrotic Weapons.
- Warding Formula- When activated, also grants Deflect. or Measured Dose- When activated, also grants Precision.
- Added Protection- While active, you take 10% less damage.
- Greater Comfort- Duration: +25%
- Potent Balm- When activated, the first instance of healing is increased by 300%. or Touch of Elfroot- Healing effectiveness: +25%
4) Debilitate
Lucanis opens up his enemies with a debilitating strike. Deals high Stagger.
- Barrier Buster- Damage vs. Barrier: +50%
- Critical Damage- Critical damage: +25%
- Spiteful Maladies- When this Ability deals a Critical hit, any active Afflictions on the target gain an additional stack and have their durations reset. or Crow's Spectacle- When this Ability deals a Critical hit, you gain Precision.
- Killing Time- Cooldown duration: -15%
- Sleight of Hand- Adds an extra hit, dealing 100% as Physical damage.
- Enduring Sunder- Sundered duration: +50% or Sharper Edge- Sundered effectiveness: +10%
5) Adrenaline Rush
Lucanis gives a rousing shout, motivating you to act with renewed determination. Grants Enhanced Damage.
- Quick Words- Cooldown duration: -20%
- Impeccable Timing- During combat Adrenaline Rush may trigger automatically. This has its own independent cooldown that cannot occur more than once every 60 seconds.
- Ultimate Power- When activated, you gain 20% Ultimate. This bonus applies only during combat. or Ability Rush- When activated, you gain 50 Momentum. This bonus applies only during combat.
- Enhanced Efficacy- Enhanced Damage effectiveness: +10%
- See It Through- Enhanced Damage duration: +25%
- Relentless Rush- When activated, also grants Precision. or Assassin's Gift- When activated, also grants Deflect.

Lucanis' Veilguard Skills
Lucanis has two Veilguard skills, which can be unlocked at the end of his quest line. These are dependent on dialogue choices made when speaking with Illario.
1) Demon of Defiance: Lucanis' Critical damage and detonation damage are increased by 50%. Additionally, Lucanis' abilities now deal 25% more damage to enemies suffering from an affliction.
2) Demon of Rebellion: Your Resistance is increased by 10%. The party's Barrier damage is increased by 25%.
Lucanis' Equipment
There are eight pieces of equipment or weaponry for Lucanis, and they are as follows:
1) Crowkeeper
- With Lucanis in the party, your Critical Ability hits apply Bleeding.
- If the enemy is at maximum Bleeding stacks, they are also afflicted with Necrosis.
2) Butcher's Screw
- Attack My Target applies Vulnerability to Necrotic damage.
3) Focal Blade
- Deal +40 added Electricity damage.
- Final attacks deal an additional 100 Electric damage.
- Apply Shocked on Final attacks.
- Shocked now reduces enemy Electric Resistance by 25.
4) Balanced Epee
- Attack My Target applies Bleeding vs. Mages.
- The entire party deals +25% Damage vs. Mages.
5) God's Foil
- Attack My Target has +50% Penetration.
- Enemies already Afflicted with Bleeding gain another stack.
6) Rialto
- Attack My Target deals +100% Damage vs. Enemies at High Health.
- Lucanis deals +100% damage from any source if the target has not been injured yet.
7) Slender Dagger
- Lucanis’ Ability cooldowns are reduced by 10%.
- Companion cooldowns are reduced by 10 seconds whenever Lucanis’ Abilities defeat an enemy.
8) Trevisan Poignard
- Using Lucanis' Abilities grants you +10% Ultimate.
