Dragon Age The Veilguard romance guide

Like its predecessors, Dragon Age The Veilguard allows you to romance your in-game companions. With Thedas facing the Elven gods and the threat of blight consuming the world, there is nothing wrong with falling in love with one of your comrades. However, the process of reaching their heart can be a bit tricky if you don't know the perfect approach.

This article will provide a brief overview of the romance system for Dragon Age The Veilguard.

How the romance system works in Dragon Age The Veilguard

The romance system in Dragon Age The Veilguard is quite simple. You must raise your approval rating and complete certain requests if you want to create a relationship with any one of your seven companions. Here is a brief overview of how the system works.

Gaining approval

Gaining approval is the first major step to romancing your companions in The Veilguard. Your comrades will approve or disapprove of certain actions, and often the words you speak. There are a few ways to strengthen the bonds between you and your friends in the game:

  • Speak with them at the Lighthouse: Whenever you are at the Lighthouse, check your map to see if any of your companions are available for a chat. Make sure to go to their room and talk with them.
  • Choose your words carefully: Each one of your companions has a unique personality. Make sure to choose your words carefully while talking with them to gain their approval.
  • Bring companions to quests: Each one of your party members gains an increased affinity based on the quests you are doing. For example, bringing Bellara for quests in the Arlathan forest or related to Veil Jumper's factions will increase her affinity.
  • Select Heart options for companions whom you want to romance.
  • Bring them gifts: Various vendors in various areas in Dragon Age The Veilguard will have different items that you can gift your companions. This will help raise your affection level.

Crucial choices

While many of you might not know, a certain sequence in the game might lock you out of romance with Lucanis. After you recruit Davrin, you will need to choose between lending your aid to either Treviso or Minrathous. If you choose the latter, you will lose your chance of romancing Lucanis.

Companion quests

Your companions will often ask you for some personal favors throughout the story. Each one of them has unique quests that explore their backstory and motivations and allow you a chance to get to know them better. Make sure to complete these quests.

Each relationship in the game has a particular timeline for you to improve your bond. Here is the order for all the companions:

  • You will need to do Taash's companion quest, A Little Dragon Hatches, before completing the main story mission of Fire and Ice. During that quest, you will be able to confess your feelings for them and get committed.
  • The rest of the cast can be romanced during the late-game section. Make sure to complete their quests and then talk with them.
  • You will have the chance to either commit to a relationship or end things right up and friendzone them.
