Dragon Age The Veilguard walkthrough: How to complete the Gate of Pale Reflections quest
The Gate of Pale Reflections quest in Dragon Age The Veilguard is a side quest tied to the larger The Heart of Corruption quest chain. You can start this quest after unlocking the Hossberg Wetlands, which becomes accessible through the main storyline. It’s highly recommended to complete the main quest, Something Wrong, before attempting this quest.
In Gate of Pale Reflections, you must defeat a powerful demon mini-boss called Amarell the Unwoven, so a party at least level 35+ is advised. In this guide, we have shared everything to know to complete the Dragon Age The Veilguard Gate of Pale Reflections quest.
How to start the Gate of Pale Reflections in Dragon Age The Veilguard
You can initiate the Gate of Pale Reflections quest once you’ve unlocked the third island in The Crossroads. Head up the stairs and defeat the enemies in your path. From there, take a right to enter a rundown house, where a wooden stairway will take you to an elevated platform. Here, you’ll encounter another wave of enemies.
After defeating them, look for a ladder on your left to access a zipline. Before using the zipline, make sure to shoot down the blight spots on the cliffside to your left. Once across, use ranged attacks to shoot down three additional blight cysts around the area, following the blight tendrils. Clearing the final large blight cyst reveals a pathway to the Gate.

After unlocking the Gate, go to Hossberg Wetlands and follow the quest marker leading you into the Blighted Tunnel near Lavendel or fast-travel to the Solitude’s Edge beacon. From there, look south to spot the large blight cyst. Destroying this cyst will trigger the boss fight and spawn Amarell the Unwoven.
Boss Fight: Amarell the Unwoven
The battle against Amarell the Unwoven is hard. One of his signature abilities is the Dark Fog of War, which blankets the battlefield, limiting visibility and disabling your companions’ abilities. He also spawns additional Darkspawn and Blight Bombs to overwhelm you.
Amarell’s attack patterns include a variety of devastating moves such as Ground Slam, which causes multiple stalagmites to erupt from the ground, Shockwave Stomp, which generates a wide-area shockwave, and a Multi-Slam Attack with his hammer or axe. The most challenging of his attacks is his Charge, which is fast and hits very hard.

Use the narrow strip of land just north of the blight cyst as a safe zone. This area will allow you to heal and regroup without being hit by his charge attacks. Since Amarell is resistant to crowd-control effects like Blizzard and Time Slow, focus on using heavy burst damage builds.
Fire is especially effective as it makes Amarell visible when he uses his fog ability. Equip your party with gear that enhances fire damage and damage-over-time effects, and bring companions specialized in high DPS roles such as Veil Rangers. Also, kill his spawns as fast as possible to keep the focus on Amarell.
