The Cobbled Swan Case quest in Dragon Age The Veilguard is a major quest that serves as both a main story mission and the second entry in Neve’s companion quest chain. This quest is unlocked after completing "The Siege of Weisshaupt." Once it's finished, Neve will approach you, requesting a meeting at Dock Town to investigate the abduction of Makal Damas, the leader of the Threads, by the Venatori.

How to start The Cobbled Swan Case quest in Dragon Age The Veilguard
To start the quest, head to the bar in Dock Town, where Neve is waiting for you. Speak with her to start the mission. If you want a romantic relationship with Neve, here you will have an opening to flirt with her by selecting the “Never a dull moment” dialogue.
Once the conversation concludes, explore the bar area for clues about Damas' abduction. Inspect the overturned table and the bar counter, then speak to Rana for further hints.
Following this, approach Hal, who directs you to ask around the docks. Speak to the man at the west pier, who will then point you toward the Wharf Crossing, where you’ll find Benny sitting on a cart. Benny will direct you to a woman named Nira at the Shoreline, sitting near a boat. After speaking to Nira, follow the quest marker to the Lamplighter, where you will initiate a cutscene.

How to complete The Cobbled Swan Case quest in Dragon Age The Veilguard
After gathering information, go to the Side Alley Bridge to enter the Threads’ Hideout. Here, you will meet Elek Tavor and Cida Ciconia, who reveal that the Venatori has taken Makal Damas hostage in the Thread Market. Before heading out, make sure to grab the Codex Entry from the nearby room.
For this mission, Neve is a required companion, so you can only bring one additional party member. It's recommended to select a character with strong offensive abilities to go with Neve’s Frost spells that are good for control.
Once your party is set, head outside and follow the objective marker to the Thread Market. You'll fight some Venatori cultists blocking your path; use Charged Attacks to break their shields and clear the way.
Upon reaching the market, you’ll notice Venatori Mages using Blood Magic to control members of the Threads. Your goal here is to eliminate the mages and break their hold on the captured Threads. Fight your way through the Venatori forces and continue to the end of the area, where you will find red crystals blocking your path.
Destroy these crystals to remove the red barrier that leads to Makal Damas. However, before proceeding to the final chamber, take some time to explore the marketplace for hidden treasure chests, which contain valuable loot.

Treasure Chest Locations
The Thread Market contains three hidden treasure chests:
- The First Chest is located near the green symbol in the main street area. To access it, pull the lever to open the gate, then use Neve’s Frost Binding ability on a second gate. Then go up the ladder to pull the second lever to solve the puzzle and get to the chest.
- The Second Chest is near the blue symbol, just opposite the previous chest area. Climb a nearby ladder and use Neve’s Frost Binding ability through a hole in the wall. Pull the lever to unlock the chest.
- The Third Chest is the easiest to access, found on the left side of the area right before reaching Makal Damas’ chamber. This chest does not require solving any puzzles.
How to defeat Makal Damas during The Cobbled Swan Case quest in Dragon Age The Veilguard
Once you’ve collected all the treasures, proceed to the chamber where Makal Damas is being held. A cutscene will reveal that he is under the influence of Aelia’s magic. You will have to beat him to break the spell. He is vulnerable to Frost and resistant to Fire, so spam Neve’s Icebreaker and Blizzard's abilities to maximize damage.
Damas is quick and has a wide attack range, but his defenses can be broken with Charged Abilities. Focus on exploiting his Frost weakness to make short work of him. After the battle, you’ll be faced with a choice: either agree with the Threads’ plan to deal with Bataris (Dialogue: “Deal. Bataris threatens lives.”), which gains Neve’s approval, or refuses to compromise (Dialogue: “No. We’ll find a better way.”), which leads to Neve’s disapproval.
Regardless of your decision, you’ll automatically return to the Lighthouse for a final conversation with Neve. Here, you’ll have another opportunity to flirt with her by selecting the dialogue option: “I’m here for you” and “I believe in you, Neve,”. Alternatively, you can select friendship-focused dialogue, such as “Friends help each other,”. This conversation marks the end of the quest.
