Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: How to beat Soul of Baramos

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake introduces the Soul of Baramos boss fight a little early. When you reach the top of the Tower of Rubiss, instead of simply moving forward as normal, Baramos’ obnoxious voice catches your attention. Now, the Soul of Baramos is ready to fight and bar your path once more. This won’t be the last time you fight him, either, but each time you deal with it essentially the same way.

I don’t think Soul of Baramos is much harder than regular Baramos in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, but it is still a noteworthy encounter. The first version of this fight, in the Tower of Rubiss, comes with a pair of backup enemies that need to be slain first — a pair of Ashdemons!

Let's go over the details.

Tips for defeating Soul of Baramos in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake

Soul of Baramos is tougher than the original in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake solely because he brings friends. The Ashdemons can and will both cast Kabuff in the first round, making things much more annoying. They can also cast Fizzle and Oomph which makes them priority number 1. Whatever one casts, the other will as well.

Use your Hero to Kazapple the whole party, as everyone is weak to it here. A few Kazapples and attacks from your Monster Wrangler make it a nice, easy few turns to get rid of them. By now, you could have two Sages in the party as well, to make both casters incredibly flexible.

Once those are down, focus on Soul of Baramos proper in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. He still casts the same spells as in the previous battle. He still uses Inferno, Fuddle, Dazzle, Kaboom, and spells like that.

If you don’t feel comfortable using turns to Sap, use Wild Side + Attack Attacker on your Monster Wrangler. Keep him asleep or silenced for as many turns as possible. Use Oomph on your Monster Wrangler, and swap between Attack Attacker, and Monster Pile-on to get as much damage down as possible.

If you aren’t running a Monster Wrangler for Soul of Baramos in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, you can take advantage of constantly putting the boss to sleep, and bring a Rogue. Use Persecutter and deal absolute mountains of damage!

Though he’s not as big a threat as normal Baramos, you still want to use Magic Barrier, Kabuff, and Acceleratle to keep your party safe. However, Soul of Baramos does have one spell that regular Baramos doesn’t — Blasto!

This dangerous spell, if it connects, removes a party member from the battle. Other than that, just keep an eye on your health, use status ailments as much as possible, and wail away on him to clear this boss fight easily.
