Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: How to defeat Orochi
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake features some intense bosses, including Orochi. If you want to claim all the Orbs and progress through the game, this is a must-fight battle. You’ll fight them twice, almost back-to-back; thankfully, the fights are almost identical. The only major difference is the second fight can hit harder. If you’re having trouble with this multi-headed dragon, read on.
You not only claim one of the Six Orbs but also receive the powerful Orochi Sword as a further reward for defeating this Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake boss. Once you’re deep in the Jipang Cave and ready for Orochi, here’s what you need to do.
Tips to defeat Orochi in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
Orochi can be handled with a wide variety of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake parties, but we used Hero, Monster Wrangler, Pilgrim, and Sage. I’m a huge fan of the Monster Wrangler in this fight, with a Dragontail Whip, or by using the Monster Pile-On/Call of the Wild abilities. Monster Pile-On is the stronger of the two, but in my fight, I completely forgot I had it.
If you have an anti-dragon weapon, try using the Monster Wrangler/melee character using basic attacks versus Monster Pile-On and use whichever is stronger. Make sure to have your Sage/Wizard cast Oomph on them first to increase attack power.
Use your Pilgrim to cast Insulatle to reduce breath weapon attacks, and Kabuff/Acceleratle to increase defense/speed. Use your Hero to cast Zapple as Orochi is weak to Lightning Magic in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, or even Oomph+Lightning Strike if you prefer.
I kept my Sage as a backup healer because Orochi’s AoE fire attacks can really hurt. Other than AoE Wildfire and melee attacks, beware of Orochi Shouting Suddenly as it can inflict Fear.
If you can sneak a Sap or two in, that helps as well, to push your Monster Wrangler’s melee strikes to well over 300 damage a hit. If everyone’s healthy and buffed, Crackle from your Sage/Wizard is good as well, since this boss is also weak to Ice.
Between Sage/Pilgrim as healers (and Hero as a backup), and Monster Wrangler’s intense melee damage, it won’t take but a few turns to wrap up Orochi. When you’re ready to fight round two, head to the main house of Jipang, speak to Pimiko and refuse to keep her secret. This triggers the second battle.
Honestly, I don’t think this fight was really any different. Solid use of buffs/debuffs, and a strong melee character will make Orochi into mincemeat in no time in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. Fight her exactly the same way and claim your Orb. I fought this boss after several other Orb guardians like Dying Fire, so Orochi felt easy by comparison.
