Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: How to get the Bottomless Pot (Boulder Puzzle)

You will need the Bottomless Pot in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake to get the Ultimate Key out of the Shoal Shrine. But the hardest part is figuring out exactly how you will get to it. Technically, you can begin working on this as soon as you get the boat as the reward from the King of Portoga. However, you’ll probably want to be a bit higher level than that, as you’ll need to dip your toes into some fairly dangerous waters.

Before collecting the six Orbs, you will need the Ultimate Key, which is required to get access to at least one of the orbs. But in this article, we will focus on the Bottomless Pot and the Boulder Puzzle in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. Here’s what you need to know.

Where to find the Bottomless Pot in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake

You can find the Bottomless Pot in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Edina Castle. However, this castle is very secluded, and won’t let any strangers in. Other than becoming invisible, there’s no way around this. The easiest way to infiltrate the castle is to head to Persistence and purchase a few of the Fading Jenny herbs, which temporarily turn you invisible. Then, just walk into the castle, eat the item, and walk past the guard.

You won’t be kicked out afterwards, so don’t worry about that. It’s worth having a few of these herbs in your inventory — as you might have to come back here in search of Friendly Monsters for the Monster Arena, or Mini Medals.

When you’re in Edina Castle, head downstairs, next to the Priestess, and before long you’ll find a series of Boulders. To claim the Bottomless Pot in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, you’ll need to move these in the correct order. We’re labeling these from left to right, First, Second, and Third Boulders.

  • Step 1: Push the first boulder up once, then right twice.
  • Step 2: Push the third boulder down once, then the second boulder left twice.
  • Step 3: Push the first boulder all the way into the northern section, and position it on either the left or right pad.
  • Step 4: Push the second boulder up once, and right twice. Then push it into the northern area, on the opposite pad from the first boulder (leftmost or rightmost pad).
  • Step 5: Push the third boulder up once, left four times, up once, right twice, and north all the way onto the center pad.

There are likely other ways to do this puzzle, but this is how we did it back in Dragon Warrior 3 on the NES, and it still works now. This is a simple but important puzzle to solve if you want to progress in this RPG.

With that, you can head to the treasure chest in this Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake castle town, and claim the Bottomless Pot! Now all you have to do is sail to the Shoal Shrine, drop the pot in the ocean, and claim the Ultimate Key!
