Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: How to get the Rainbow Drop
The Rainbow Drop in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is essential for beating the game - it creates the Rainbow Bridge that allows you to cross over to the location where Zoma’s Citadel awaits. Those players who beat Dragon Quest 1/Dragon Warrior back in the day know that this is the primary quest for that game as well. So, you need to make the Rainbow Drop to go and fight the Dragon Lord. However, it will take much less time here, than it did in the original title.
If you played Dragon Quest 1, you already have a pretty good idea of where you need to go, and what you need to do. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake gives you a vague idea of where to go to complete the Rainbow Drop, but if you’re confused, we’re here to help.
Note: This guide contains spoilers to unlock a major key item for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D.
How to make the Rainbow Drop in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
To make the Rainbow Drop in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, you need the Staff of Rain, Sacred Amulet, and the Sunstone. These will combine to create the Rainbow Drop, which you can take to the peninsula that leads to Zoma’s Citadel. Here, you’ll use the item, unlock an achievement, and make your way to the final dungeon of the main game.
The Sacred Amulet is simple enough to get. Grab the Faerie Flute in the Town of Kol (looking for the sparkling item near the baths), and get to the top of the Tower of Rubiss. Once you defeat Soul of Baramos, play the Faerie Flute for the statue, and the Rubiss herself will awaken and reward you with the Amulet.
Moving on, you can pick up the Sunstone almost as soon as you arrive in Alefgard. After speaking with the king, head to the kitchen on the right side of the castle, and take the steps to the second floor. Open the nearby chest to claim the Sunstone. This is one piece of the Rainbow Drop puzzle completed in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
You’ll see two spots circled on the bottom of your map in Alefgard - a pair of shrines. These are the places you need to visit next. The bottom right shrine is the Sanctum, where you take the Staff of Rain and Sunstone, to create the Rainbow Drop. To the West of it is the Shrine of the Spirit. You get the Staff of Rain here, after a small chat with the Spirit of Rubiss.
In addition to the circled areas, there are two spots, marked with an “X” on the map. These lead you to Damdara and Cantlin, two important towns. You will find the Orichalcum in Damara, which is used to craft the Sword of Kings.
You’ll also find at least one Friendly Monster here for the Monster Arena. Cantlin’s wise man will also tell you the three items you need: The Staff of Rain, Sunstone, and the Sacred Amulet - but that’s not necessary anymore. You should have all three pieces by now and ready to craft the Rainbow Drop in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
When you’re ready, return to the Sanctum, and speak to the man there. If you have all three pieces, he’ll conjure up the Rainbow Drop for you. Now you can take it to the peninsula near Zoma’s Citadel, watch a brief cutscene, and gain access to the final boss.
