Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake: How to get Sword of Kings
Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake’s Sword of Kings is still in the game, though the original method of unlocking it has changed. It still requires you to find a particular swordsmith, but there’s an extra step or two added this time. You can do this before fighting Zoma, and in fact, I highly recommend it. We didn’t find it until the post-game, but there’s nothing stopping you from crafting this incredible sword, once you make your way to Alefgard.
Unfortunately, you can’t use this blade on Archfiend Baramos, because it’s hidden down in Alefgard. That means you’ll have to go through a significant chunk of the main game’s story quests, such as finding all six Orbs first. If you want to locate the Sword of Kings in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and claim victory against Zoma with it, we’re here to help.
Note: This contains spoilers for unlocking the Sword of Kings in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
Where to get Sword of Kings in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
When you visit Kol in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, you’ll start getting clues to the Sword of Kings. This town features a couple who fled from Jipang and wound up down here in Alefgard. The item shop owner was once a renowned craftsman, but his masterwork hammer has been lost.
Speak to him and his wife, as well as the people in the item shop, and you’ll learn more about this man and his struggle. Keep this in the back of your mind. First, we want to get the Orichalcum. You can find this in the town of Damdara. Just go to the field where the horses are, and interact with the sparkling spot.
The next step is to return to Jipang, to get the smith’s hammer. For this step of getting the Sword of Kings in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, teleport to Jipang, and head to the house left of the well. If you speak to the person outside, he mentions the swordsmith who lived there.
Go inside and grab the hammer. Bring it back to Kol, and give it to the Merchant. He’ll be grateful, and as part of the discussion, mentions a sword. One of the locals is familiar with the sword, as well. The next step is the sword itself. You can find it in the town of Cantlin. Head to the scholar’s house. It’s the large building to the left of the lake in the center of town.
Walk upstairs, and you’ll see a gleaming sword, shattered on the table. If you speak to the man, he’ll mention he’s trying to build a powerful automaton to defend the town. This will become the Golem in Dragon Quest 1. Interact with the sword, and the man will give you the broken blade.
The final step is to just head to Kol again and speak to the swordsmith in the item shop. He’ll craft the blade for you, and give it to you, free of charge. In the original game, you had to purchase it, but that’s not the case in this version. Congratulations! You now have the Sword of Kings in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
In the post-game, there is a weapon with greater attack power (Destructiball), but it’s still a worthwhile blade to own. With a high attack power, and the ability to cast Kaswoosh when used as an item, it’s one of the most powerful weapons in the title.
After the game ends, this sword will be renamed in the canon to "the Sword of Erdrick" and will be one of the relics of the legendary hero.
